Ethics

The Ethics course has four objective: to help students 1) understand what ethics is and its meaning for them, 2) acquire a clearer understanding of their personal ehthical beliefs, 3) develop more intentional and deliberate means of resolving ethical issues, and 4) understand how to make ethical sense of contemporary ethical issues and problems. The course offers an opportunity for students to consider a range of philosophical issues and includes reading from among the following--Ariostotle, Mencius, Darwin, Marx, Kant, Bentham, and Locke. Students write a series of thought papers based on ethical dilemmas and readings, and the course culminates in the presentation of a personal credo by each student to his or her classmates and invited guests.
